Moonlight at Night: A Celestial Symphony in Interior Design

Le Szu Pai's Lunar-Inspired Haven Wins Silver A' Design Award

At the heart of this 435-square-meter residential space, situated within a 30-year-old building in Taichung City, Taiwan, lies a unique fascination with the moon. The design, completed in July 2023, is a testament to the homeowner's personality—a blend of strength and softness, much like the moon's own symbolic presence in the night sky. The design team, led by Design Director Chin-Hsin Lin and Interior Designer Hsin-Chieh Lu, alongside Design Consultant Le Szu Pai, have crafted an environment that encapsulates the homeowner's unique temperament through a black and gold color palette, streamlined curves, and meticulous edge detailing.

Distinctive features such as the moon-shaped chandelier suspended in the central open space and the cement sculpture technique used on the main wall of the TV area and master bedroom set this design apart. These elements not only serve functional purposes but also create a lunar landscape within the home, eliminating traditional vertical and horizontal divides and infusing the space with a mysterious lunar beauty.

The design's realization was guided by the homeowner's desire for a space that reflects her distinct charm. The open floor plan eschews the need for multiple rooms, instead incorporating a workspace behind the living room, a private gym, and a sunroom to enjoy natural light. The integration of the Apple HomeKit smart home system interconnects lighting, audio, and air conditioning appliances, exemplifying the seamless living experience intended by the designers.

Challenges such as the innovative design of the TV feature wall were overcome through the use of advanced cement carving techniques, which allowed for a personalized touch while minimizing environmental impact. The avoidance of marble extraction in favor of custom textures reflects the project's commitment to sustainability and the homeowner's involvement in the creative process.

The Moonlight at Night project, initiated in November 2021 and brought to life over the course of nearly two years, is a celebration of transparency, intelligence, smart functionality, and versatility. It redefines the residential experience, ensuring that every corner of the home resonates with the homeowner's essence and the ethereal qualities of the moon.
